Widowed Persons Outreach (WPO) was founded to offer community for the bereaved as they navigate the loss of a spouse.

The Story Behind the Mission

WPO is grateful to Sibley Memorial Hospital for its professional guidance, support, and in-kind donations.

Widowed Persons Outreach (WPO) was founded in 1993 through the collaborative effort of the Sibley Senior Association, Widowed Persons Service of Montgomery County, Wendt Center for Loss & Healing, IONA Senior Services and the Washington Home.

Throughout its history, the central focus of WPO has been to provide support groups for newly bereaved widowed persons in the DC Metro area. WPO also offers community events, annual conferences and bi-monthly newsletters for all widowed persons.

WPO is served by a volunteer Board of Directors who oversee operations, fundraising and outreach to the community. Most of our board members are widowed persons who have participated in the grief support groups sponsored by WPO.
